Lil Town, Big Fun... and other pics

I believe the 4th of July to be the best Holiday of the year for a couple of reasons: low stress, perfect weather, good food, family, candy, parades, rodeos, demolition derbies, fireworks, BBQ's, bike parades and the best part of all... No Gifts (hence the low stress part)! We have a tradition to go to the thriving metropolis of Delta every 4th of July and partake in the festivities that Delta has to offer. I would say that Delta offers the best 4th of July celebration in the state. Nothing beats the small town parade and carnival. It is one of the few 4th of July celebrations where the 5K run that prefaces the parade is actually longer than the parade route itself and where kids get more candy from the parade than they do on Halloween night (including trunk or treats). Where the majority of the parade consists of antique farming tractors, horses and demolition cars that are entered in the nights "main event". After the parade we hit the carnival in the park. Everyone brings their greatest recipes and set up a booth from authentic Mexican, Navajo tacos, and snow cones galore. Kids games are in no shortage either...yes the fishing pond still lives for 50 cents a kid can throw a line over a sheet with fishes on it and get a special prize and for $2 lucky lil' children can ride a big horse in circles (still trying to figure out why we pay to ride someone elses horses when my family has their own) it is a true country fair. After a busy day of activities and food the adults topped it off by going to the Demolition Derby and did some serious people watching you would not believe the people that go to those things (wait...hmm, what does that say about me) needless to say the people watching was incredible and the cars and crashes were good too. Here are a few pics from the festivities
Addie anxiously awaiting the beginning of the parade
Elle anxiously awaiting her next feeding
The whole family anxiously awaiting to go shopping at the Family Dollar behind us after the parade when the sale "officially starts"
I still can't believe we paid two bucks! But doesn't she look cuteAddie really wanted to see the baby calves that we born a few days earlier so being the father that I am I wrestled one down so we could have a chance to pet it.

The girls are pooped after a busy day...actually that must be a different picture.
This is part of the "other pics" section of the blog. I decided to bic my head and Addie thought it was pretty funny looking.
Elle just chillin... again "other pics" section. We can't believe that she is big enough to sit in the bumbo.

Lehi Rodeo is always a classic event notice how I am pretending to know what I am doing as I shove the binky in Elle's mouth and smile as if to say "I do this all the time, I got this covered"

That sounds like the most perfect, quintessential, small town American way to celebrate the 4th of July. That tradition will become a great memory for your girls I'm sure!

I could tell that the writing style was different than Cort's! Way to go Jer for making a post. Good Job. My husband hardly knows I have a blog.

Fun times in Delta. I love carnivals too. We go every year to the Ute Stampede in Nehpi and I have to agree that snow cones, cotton candy, corn dogs should all be staple food. The girls look beautiful!

Love the small towns! Our big celebration is next weekend. Can't wait. A good friend grew up in Delta - can't remember her maiden name though.
